Berlin Bingo

Berlin Bingo is a humourous and totally authentic city guide to Berlin.

It offers 8 double sided cards, featuring 64 fun challenges that'll guide you through Mitte, Kreuzberg, Friederichshain and Prenzlauer Berg as the locals see them. 16 challenges in each area, all beautifully illustrated by our friend Carla Hackett - http://carlahackett.com/.

Sometimes you'll be searching for places, sometimes food or drink, sometimes it's types of people you'll need to spot on your travels. It'll always be fun. That we promise. Here are a sample of some the items and their challenges:

In Kreuzberg:

Pfand Piraten 
These people scrape a living collecting empty bottles, which have a small deposit on them (Pfand). The easiest way to find one is to leave your empty bottle on the top of a bin. A Pfand Pirat will appear as if by magic. Task: Help them find 2 bottles.

The Görli 
It's not relaxing. It looks like the set of a Mad Max movie, but on a summers day there is nowhere more Kreuzberg than the Görli.Task: Find a Turkish family BBQ of minimum 30 people.

In Prenzlauer Berg:

Dr Pong 
Berlin's only dedicated Ping Pong bar. Everything a night out should be, you'll drink, meet new people and play in a big round robin game of one of the finest sports no-one cares about. Task - Drink a beer, play, and stay in the game for 4 minutes

Hipster Parents 
Having kids used to be the staple of lame conformists, but not any more folks! Now you can have kids whilst staying just as cool and culturally relevant as before, when you become - Hipster Parents. Task - Find 4 sets of Hipster Parents.

In Mitte:

Futschi Tour 
There are many pretentious bars across Mitte, particularly around Torstraße. Futschi is a very unpretentious drink (Brandy & Cola) usually only offered in the city's shadier establishments. Task - Find a posh bar and try to order a Futschi.

Hübsch und Teuer 
Sample Mitte's many minimalist, white, gallery style stores where plain woolen jumpers cost €350. When you find a particularly over priced item, loudly say Das ist ja ein Schnäppchen, dann nehme ich zwei davon! Task - Say it's so cheap, you'll take two.

In Friederichshain:

Stalinallee - This wide street, now renamed to Karl Marx Allee is the spot to check out the giant, imposing Stalin-era socialist housing complexes built in the 1950s when this was the Soviet occupied area of the city. Task - Count the windows of just one complex. 

The Berghain Queue 
The long queue is almost as famous as the club itself, previously voted the best in the world. Visiting Berghain is a pilgrimage for any serious clubber, even if you give up before actually getting in. Task: Experience the queue/club

The Story Behind Berlin Bingo 
While being away from home and the tedium of our daily routines is great, being a tourist is actually kind of lame. You wander around, look at big buildings you can’t name, consult quickly frayed maps and get sworn at by locals for getting in the way or daring to interrupt their busy days with your stupid lame tourist questions.

So any guide that helps give Berlin tourists assimilate and have a more authentic experience is a good thing. Of course it’s never going to be completely authentic, nor should it try to be, they are a tourists after all. But that doesn’t mean they have to be the annoying kind.
